Reading for Style

While reading your memoirs this week, I'd like you to consider style - in terms of diction. How is this writer writing? How does that relate to her/his rhetorical strategy? Be sure to cite text. I'd like two completed by Friday. I expect to discuss them with you this week.

  1. I believe that language is political. This is because if an author is expressing himself about something, he must have an opinion on the matter. Even if the author is not making a radical opinion, the way he constructs his writings will always have certain elements indicating a political view. Tone, diction, register, mood, and others are useful indicators of this. Therefore, the writing transcends the writer. An apolitical author can produce works with political views; it all depends on the reader.
